I just discovered that Pat Tillman went to my high school (I think). Did you know that Christina? His wiki page just states that he was born in SJ but doesn't list his HS...
OK, just googled some more to find out YES, he went to Leland & he graduated in 93 which means we were there when he was...they have renamed the field after him. I'm going to go look in my yearbooks - which are sitting on my shelf up stairs...

Yes, I did know this! It was sort of splashed about right after he died - I still peruse the San Jose Merc from time to time.
I still have no idea who he is and never really checked my year books... I should do that, maybe his HS face will ring a bell.
Also, a friend of mine was dating an NFL football player at the time (a Carolina player actually!) but the dude she was dating was from AZ originally and knew Tillman pretty well. This person said that Tillman felt pretty strongly about giving up all that he had to fight in the war, that it meant more to him to do this than to make a million bucks, etc... Fascinating stuff.
I must have missed that day at LHS when they passed about those kinds of strong convictions - I was likely doing something I should not have been doing thus missing those lessons ;)

He did look familiar when I looked in the yearbook - he also played JV baseball. I'm sure I was with you missing those same lessons cause I sure as hell didn't learn them from LHS! And I went to a total of TWO football games ever!
Ah yeah me too on the football thing - in fact I went to more Bellermine games that LHS...
Tillman was cut from JV baseball according to one thing I read and that is why he tried football!
